Kansas Pastor Curtis Knapp Wants The Government To Kill Gays...Really

He looks kind of gay to me
The death rattle of the anti gay extremists continues.  The acceptance of gays and lesbians in this country is increasing quicker than they can recruit more haters.  They know it and they are becoming more extreme and vocal.  It's kind of illogical and counter productive since history is a viscous judge of hatred.   I guess logic is nowhere to be found when it comes to internalized homophobia.

Via Queerty:

What the bejeebus is up with the sudden onslaught of extremist preachers calling for the mass genocide of gays? An audio clip of Pastor Curtis Knapp of New Hope Baptist Church in Seneca, Kansas calls for a — *ahem* — final solution to “the curse of homosexuality.” Cutting in somewhere in the middle of his sermon cum hate speech, the pastor says:
And should be put to death. That’s what happened in Israel. That’s why homosexuality wouldn’t have grown in Israel. It tends to limit conversions. It tends to limit people coming out of the closet.
‘Oh, so you’re saying we should go out and start killing them?’
No. I’m saying the government should. They won’t, but they should.
He said put them to death. Shall the church drag them in? No, I’m not say that. The church has not been given the power of the sort; the government has. But the government ought to [kill them]. You got a better idea? A better idea than God?

Gay Penquins In Spain Allowed To Care For Egg

Inca sitting on his egg while Rayas keeps watch.
How adorable is this?!!  Once again, the claim that homosexuality is not "natural" is debunked.  Good luck, guys!  I'm sure you will be wonderful parents!!
Inca and Rayas, a pair of Gentoo penguins at Madrid’s Faunia Park Zoo, have suffered from repeated heartache for a long time according to zookeeper Yolanda Martin. The pair had carefully built and lovingly looked after six nests, but sadly, those nests remained empty.
Martin noted that Inca and Rayas had longingly watched the other penguin couples welcome their little chicks into the world, and finally, after zookeepers took pity on them, the presumed gay birds now appear delighted to finally have been given the chance to enjoy “parenthood.”
According to Martin, Inca has taken on the “female” role of incubating the donated egg (that is due to hatch in June), and sits loyally on his child to be, while even turning down the chance to get his feathers wet with a refreshing swim.
Meanwhile, his “husband” Rayas keeps a watchful eye on their nest and chases off any potential predators or gawkers.

Hate Church Teaches Child To Sing Homophobic Song

The only good thing about this is the internet shines light on the hatred.  It exposes right wing extremists and makes them defend their hatred, in the open, to a more accepting public.  It's still very sad to see these children indoctrinated into hate and homophobia.

Via Goodlawd!:

Wow, we don’t know what to say about this. It’s a video of a young boy in what looks to be a church setting singing. "I know the bible’s right somebody’s wrong,” he says. And then the child goes on to say, "ain’t no homos gonna make it to heaven".   The congregation jumps up to cheer. What say you? We want to hear your comments below. Self-righteous people? Or was this kid singing the truth?

You can watch the video here.

Why Do Right Wingers Hate Obama? Bill Maher Asks.

He's got a point.  President Obama has governed like a moderate Republican and yet the far right can't hate him enough.  Gee, I wonder why?

h/t to TowleRoad:

[Obama] didn't go on a spending spree. He didn't break up the too-big-to-fail banks. They've only gotten bigger. And fail-ier. That's not what liberals wanted. That's what conservatives wanted.
At the 2008 convention, Sarah Palin chanted "drill baby drill!" Under Obama, there's more drilling than ever. That's not what environmentalists wanted. That's what conservatives wanted.
Obama spent most of last year conceding the Republican premise that government needed cutting. That's not what progressives wanted. That's what the Tea Party wanted.
The Dow was at 7949 when he took office. Now it's 12000 and over, and corporate profits are at their highest ever. If he's a socialist, he's a lousy one. He could not be less threatening if he was walking home with ice tea and Skittles.
So the question remains. How could you guys be so unhappy with Obama while I'm so unhappy with Obama? You think you got coal in your stocking? I wanted single payer health care, a carbon emissions bill, gun control and legalized pot. If you get to carry around all this outrage over me getting that sh*t, shouldn't I have gotten it?
So just admit it. This isn't about what Obama is. it's about what you need him to be. Because hating him is what gets you up in the morning.

Gluttonous Congregant Of Pastor Charles "Round Up The Gays" Worley Shows Her Willful Ignorance To Anderson Cooper

Stacey (Gluttony Is A Sin)  Pritchard
One of TowleRoad's commenters points out the irony of her condemnation, when she should be looking in the mirror and read the following verse:

"and put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony"
-Proverbs 23:2

Who knows if she has ever been introduced to the proverbs verse...maybe she ate it!

How dare we keep "harping, harping, harping" on their hating, hating and more hating!

Read more at TowleRoad:

The woman, Stacey Pritchard, is all about Worley's plan, but she can't quite explain why other alleged sinners don't deserve to be detained, nor does she seem to have a complete understanding of where gay babies come from... Biology is hard, and Anderson is confused.

Adam Lambert: First Openly Gay Artist To Top Billboard Charts

Out gay artists are the new normal.

Via Huffington Post:

Adam Lambert is making history this week by reportedly becoming the first openly gay male artist to top the Billboard album charts.
As Billboard's Keith Caulfield is reporting, Lambert snagged the No. 1 spot with his sophomore effort, "Trespassing," which sold 77,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Interestingly, it's a case of one "American Idol" alum replacing another, as Lambert's chart debut toppled Carrie Underwood's "Blown Away," which drops to No. 3.
Including Underwood, Lambert is the seventh "American Idol" finalist to reach No. 1, following Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken, Chris Daughtry (of Daughtry) and Scotty McCreery, according to Billboard.
But Lambert's chart triumph is also historic, as it marks the first time an openly gay male performer has accomplished that feat. As AfterElton notes, "Other gay performers such as Elton John and George Michael have hit No. 1, but only before they came out, and they haven't managed that honor since."

U Of Penn Will Offer Tax Offsets To Employees In Same Sex Relationships

I've discussed in the past about my partner being taxed on the health benefits I received from his employer while I was unemployed.  Employers are starting to take it upon themselves to compensate their employees who are being legally penalized by state governments and the federal government.  Hopefully, the government will follow where wise progressive employers lead.
WASHINGTON -- The University of Pennsylvania is implementing a new policy that will offer benefits to faculty and staff in same-sex partnerships who are forced to pay more in taxes on health coverage than heterosexual married couples.
Same-sex marriage is not recognized under federal or Pennsylvania state tax laws. Therefore, faculty and staff at Penn who cover a domestic partner under one of the university's health care plans must pay taxes on that partners' benefits; the same is not true of a partner in a heterosexual marriage.
Penn's new policy, effective July 1, will help same-sex couples offset these taxes.
The university will provide up to $125 per month (minus applicable taxes) to faculty and staff covering same-sex domestic partners under a Penn medical plan.
"Penn's decision to offer these benefits is important," said Tobias Barrington Wolff, a professor at Penn Law School who has worked extensively on gay rights. He was also the first openly gay tenured member of the Penn Law School faculty.
"Same-sex couples in Pennsylvania have no rights under state law, so tax discrimination can have a particularly severe impact on the ability of Pennsylvania couples to provide for each other and their kids," he said. "[Penn] President [Amy] Gutmann is to be commended for her leadership on what is, at base, a simple matter of fairness. I hope that her peers at universities around the country will follow her example."

Mississippi Lawmaker Denies He Endorsed Gays Being Put To Death...But He Did

Rep. Gipson may want a man with
unit "this big"
This all started when Miss. GOP State Representative Andy Gipson posted on his Facebook page in response to President Obama's endorsement of gay marriage.

“Been a lot of press on Obama’s opinion on ‘homosexual marriage,’” Gipson wrote (screenshots here).
“The only opinion that counts is God’s: see Romans 1:26-28 and Leviticus 20:13. Anyway you slice it, it is sin. Not to mention horrific social policy.”
Leviticus 20:13, an Old Testament Bible passage, reads:
“If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.”

So, as expected, the shit hit the fan and Rep. Gipson was called out on his incitement of violence against the LBGTQ community.

What's his response?  He claims he “never publicly or privately called for the killing of any people.”

“I believe all people are created in the image of God and I stand firmly for the sanctity of all human life. All people are entitled to the protection of the laws of our nation and state protecting human life,” Gipson said in his statement.
“Any reasonable person who reads the actual post can see that both scriptures were cited only for the proposition that same-sex marriage is morally objectionable — sin. I believe this reflects the values of the vast majority of Mississippians and the people of District 77 whom I represent.”
Here's the catch.  His initial response to the outrage was
“I do not, cannot, and will not apologize for the inspired truth of God’s Word.
If he believes the bible is "the inspired truth of God's word" then he endorses the entire scripture.  He is advocating for the murder of gays and lesbians.  That bible verse is clear.  He endorsed the verse and when called on it he tried to walk it back.  It's too late for that.  The world has seen his true colors.

NC Pastor Charles L. Worley: Round Up The Gays Behind Electric Fence & Let Them Die Off

Charles L. Worley-Hate-monger
So, in essence, potential closet case Pastor Worley is suggesting a prolonged genocide of all gay people.  He's too stupid to realize that separating gay people would not stop gay children from being born.  There will always be gays and lesbians and bisexuals and transgendered in this world.  Hopefully, one day, hate will die out.

The barrage of anti-gay sermons delivered by North Carolina-based pastors to hit the blogosphere continues with yet another disturbing rant caught on tape.
The pastor, identified on YouTube as Charles L. Worley of Providence Road Baptist Church in Maiden, N.C., condemns President Obama's much-publicized endorsement of same-sex marriage while calling for gays and lesbians to be put in an electrified pen and ultimately killed off.
"Build a great, big, large fence -- 150 or 100 mile long -- put all the lesbians in there," Worley suggests in the clip, reportedly filmed on May 13.
He continues: "Do the same thing for the queers and the homosexuals and have that fence electrified so they can't get out...and you know what, in a few years, they'll die you know why? They can't reproduce!"
He also said that if he's asked who he'll vote for, he'll reply, "I'm not going to vote for a baby killer and a homosexual lover!" Many of the congregants cheer and reply, "Amen."
Worley added, “It makes me pukin’ sick to think about -- I don’t even whether or not to say this in the pulpit -- can you imagine kissing some man?”
Wow, pastor!  My guess is you probably think about kissing men a lot!

Jimmy Kimmel Asks "Have You Ever Had A Gay Experience" Video

Some very funny responses!

Via The Advocate:

To celebrate President Obama's support of marriage equality, talk show host Jimmy Kimmel posed the question "have you ever had a gay experience" to pedestrians outside his Hollywood studio.
Watch answers to the question below.

NAACP Now Supports Marriage Equality

One could argue that President Obama's support of marriage equality may have hastened this support.  Words can and do make a difference.

Today, the board of directors of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People endorsed the rights of same-sex couples to marry, stating in a resolution that the national civil-rights organization "support[s] marriage equality consistent with equal protection under the law provided under the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution."
Although NAACP leaders like former board chair and board member Julian Bond have been on the record as strong supporters of marriage equality, today's move represents the first time the organization took a position in support of marriage equality.
The full resolution, which former NAACP senior vice president Maxim Thorne wrote was passed with only two members of the 64-member board opposed, states:

The NAACP Constitution affirmatively states our objective to ensure the "political, education, social and economic equality" of all people. Therefore, the NAACP has opposed and will continue to oppose any national, state, local policy or legislative initiative that seeks to codify discrimination or hatred into the law or to remove the Constitutional rights of LGBT citizens. We support marriage equality consistent with equal protection under the law provided under the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution. Further, we strongly affirm the religious freedoms of all people as protected by the First Amendment.

Newsweek: Obama the "First Gay President"...Not So Fast.

The first GOP President Abraham Lincoln (left) And What Many Historians
Believe To Be The "Love Of His Life" Joshua Speed (right)
Obama may be the first sitting President to support marriage equality but, let's get real.  We have most likely had actual gay Presidents.

Even historians are starting to think so.

How ironic this would be considering how homophobic right wing republicans have become.

Via Huffington Post:

OK, folks, let's come back down to Earth, lest we give credence to the old "light in the loafers" expression: President Obama is a lot of things, but he is not the first gay president.
I realize that this was decreed by Newsweek, and far be it from me to take such decrees lightly. I, too, was among those pointing to the president's great leadership last week, writing that he liberated himself and many others by coming out of the closet on marriage equality. But honestly, the "first gay president" label just doesn't work, no matter what rhetorical device you employ. And it makes us gays seem silly and starved for validation.
First off, as historian James Loewen noted this week, over a century ago James Buchanan was likely our first gay president, having lived with a man who was arguably our first gay vice president, Rufus King. And evidence suggests that it was a veritable gay era in the White House, as the president who followed Buchanan, Abraham Lincoln, was likely our second homosexual president, a reality that was seen as just plain crazy when it was first extensively documented in 2005, but which more and more serious historiansare now embracing.
And the playwright and activist Larry Kramer, who was among those pushing academia and media to rethink Lincoln's sexual orientation, has long been working on a 4,000-page book, The American People, which will be published in two-parts. In it he will drop an even bigger bomb: He says that the father of our country himself, George Washington, was actually our first gay president -- or, as he told me on my radio program last year, "a big queen." I'm sure you can't wait for the firestorm that one is going to create.

Disco Queen Donna Summer Has Died

We will miss you Donna!!
Via The Advocate:

Donna Summer, whose hit songs like "I Feel Love," "Bad Girls," and "Last Dance" made her name synonymous with the hedonistic disco era of the late 1970s, has died of lung cancer at age 63, TMZ reports.

The Grammy Award-winning singer is reported to have died in Florida and had been trying to complete work on a new album.
"Early this morning, we lost Donna Summer Sudano, a woman of many gifts, the greatest being her faith," Summer's family said Thursday, in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. "While we grieve her passing, we are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy. Words truly can't express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time."
In a 2008 interview with PrideSource, the singer acknowledged that gay men were largely responsible for helping to launch her career.

Is Rep. James Lankford (R-OK) Gay?

Seriously?! This guy is straight?!!
The reason I ask this is because Rep. Lankford thinks being gay is a choice.  And because it is a choice, he doesn't believe that the LGBT community should protected from workplace discrimination.  He thinks being gay is a choice.  So, does he think being straight is a choice?  Did he choose to live a straight life?  Could he have chosen to be gay?

The most recent studies prove that homophobic men may very well be closet cases themselves.  Could this be the case for Rep. Lankford? Obviously, I can't say for sure.  Does opposing employment non-descrimination for the LGBT community mean someone is a homophobe.  My opinion is yes.  So, that is why I ask the question "Is Rep. James Lankford (R-OK) Gay?"

Via Think Progress:

In a conversation on Capitol Hill, Lankford expressed his strong belief that being gay is a choice, and that LGBT workers should not be protected from workplace discrimination because it’s something they can change. “You don’t walk up to someone on the street and look at them and say, ‘gay or straight?’” Lankford said:
STRASSER: Would you support a law that says you can’t fire someone for their sexual orientation –
KEYES: Similar to protections for people on race or gender?
LANKFORD: Well, you’re now dealing with behavior and I’m trying to figure out exactly what you’re trying to mean by that. Because you’re dealing with — race and sexual preferences are two different things. One is a behavior-related and preference-related and one is something inherently — skin color, something obvious, that kind of stuff. You don’t walk up to someone on the street and look at them and say, “Gay or straight?”
KEYES: But you think that even if you can’t see they’re that way, you don’t think someone is born gay necessarily?
LANKFORD: Do I personally? No. I don’t. I think it’s a choice issue. Are tendencies and such? Yes. But I think it’s a choice issue.

Bush's Pollster Encourages The GOP To Embrace Gay Marriage

My, my! How times have changed and how quickly they are changing!  We have a very long way to go, but we are in the midst of a cultural shift.  The next few years should be very interesting!

A fascinating memo from George W. Bush's 2004 pollster, Jan van Lohuizen. In it, he argues that it's time for the Republican party to embrace gay marriage because the polls on the subject are changing so quickly. He even notes that this isn't just a generational issue, where the younger generation is simply better than the older, but rather that support for marriage equality is growing significantly, year by year, among all generations.
“As more people have become aware of friends and family members who are gay, attitudes have begun to shift at an accelerated pace. This is not about a generational shift in attitudes, this is about people changing their thinking as they recognize their friends and family members who are gay or lesbian.”

Tom Bridegroom's Death Shows How Much We Need Federal Marriage Rights

Tom Bridegroom (left) and his partner Shane Bitney Crone
Tom Bridegroom was a gay man.  He planned to share a long happy life with his partner Shane Bitney Crone.  That did not happen.  Tom Fell from the roof of a 4 story building on May 7th, 2011.  He died.  Tom's anti gay family was very non-accepting.  When Tom died, Shane was warned by a family member of Tom's not to show up at the funeral or there may be a violent reaction from Tom's father.

On a night when North Carolina voted to place a ban on gay marriage in their constitution by a wide margin, I encourage everyone to watch this video and really see how not having these rights on the federal level harms gay couples.

Tom's family took down his facebook page where his friends were leaving notes of support for his partner Shane. They tried to erase Shane from Tom's life.  Shane is not letting that happen.  We shouldn't either.

Check out Tom's facebook memorial page

Vice President Joe Biden Supports Marriage Equality

Vice President Joe Biden
It seems that more and more politicians are "evolving" on their position on gay marriage.  Some of them need to "evolve already"!
WASHINGTON — During a Sunday morning appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press, Vice President Joe Biden said he’s “comfortable” with full marriage equality and supports equal rights for same-sex couples — an unequivocal evolution for the Obama administration's No. 2.
When asked by host David Gregory about his views on the issue, Biden responded, “I am vice president of the United States of America. The president sets the policy. I am absolutely comfortable with the fact that men marrying men, women marrying women, and heterosexual men and women marrying another are entitled to the same exact rights, all the civil rights, all the civil liberties. And quite frankly, I don't see much of a distinction beyond that.”
Biden declined to speculate on whether President Obama will formally support marriage equality in his second term, should he be reelected.

Wife Of NC Anti Gay Marriage Amendment Sponsor Claims He Did So To Protect The Caucasian Race

Jodie Brunstetter and her caucasian race protecting husband Peter.
Oh, yeah. They hate gay marriage too.
The video below is so awkward, yet so entertaining.  In my opinion, she knows she has been caught.  My favorite part of the video below is when she claims she's suffering from heat stroke to distract from her and her husband's "alleged" racist motivations.

Via ThinkProgress:

The wife of a prominent North Carolina state senator and supporter of Amendment 1 — a proposed ballot initiative that would outlaw same-sex marriage, civil unions, and domestic partnerships in the state — claimed earlier this week that her husband advocated for the measureto protect the “Caucasian” race.
Jodie Brunstetter, the wife of North Carolina state Sen. Peter Brunstetter, made the remarks “outside the early voting site at the Forsyth County Government Center in downtown Winston-Salem” while speaking to voters, Chad Nance, a Winston-Salem freelance journalist, reports. Nance heard about Jodie’s comments from an African-American poll worker who allegedly overheard Brunstetter say, “The reason my husband wrote Amendment 1 was because the Caucasian race is diminishing and we need to uh, reproduce.”
Asked to clarify her statement, Brunstetter reluctantly confirmed that she did in fact use the phrase “Caucasian”:
BRUNSTETTER: [P]eople who founded the United states wrote a Constitution and it has been what has preserved this society. And we were just talking about lots of different things which the gentleman was turning around.
NANCE: You didn’t tell that one lady that it was to preserve the Caucasian race, because they were becoming a minority? That’s what an old lady down the block told us.
NANCE: You didn’t say that? She’s lying?
BRUNSTETTER: No. It’s just that same sex marriages are not having children. [...]
NANCE: You didn’t say anything about Caucasians?
BRUNSTETTER: I probably said the word.
NANCE: In reference to….? You didn’t tell her anything about Caucasians? …
BRUNSTETTER: Right now I am a little confused myself because there has been confusion here today about this amendment, where it is very simple. The opponents are saying things that are not true and so there has been a lot of conversation going back and forth…. Right now I have some heat stroke going on. I’m not quite sure now. Because there has been lots of confusion.
NANCE: So you did or did not say anything about Caucasians?
BRUNSTETTER: If I did it wasn’t anything race related.

Hate Filled Preacher Sean Harris Advocates Violence Against Gay Children

Is Sean Harris Gay?  His homophobia suggests he may be
It is amazing hearing the "christians" in his "flock" applauding and praising these extremely hateful words.  He tells his congregation they have his permission to beat their children if they show any signs of being gay or lesbian.

What an ASSHOLE!!

Via JoeMyGod:

Here's a revolting demonstration of Christian Love from Sean Harris, the Senior Pastor of Berean Baptist Church in Fayetteville, North Carolina. This will likely be the sickest thing you hear today, be warned.
