Via Huffington Post: The Obama administration on Friday urged the Supreme Court to strike down the Defense Of Marriage Act in a brief that calls the law unconstitutional because it violates "the fundamental guarantee of equal protection." Solicitor General Donald Verrilli argues in the brief that Section 3 of the 1996 federal law prohibits the marriage of same-sex couples and should get the court's close scrutiny. "The law denies to tens of thousands of same-sex couples who are legally married under state law an array of important federal benefits that are available to legally married opposite-sex couples. Because this discrimination cannot be justified as substantially furthering any important governmental interest, Section 3 is unconstitutional."

Everyone has the right to free speech.  That means the government can not arrest you for voicing unpopular ideas.  This includes the idiot evangelical nut job AND the gay man that shouts him down to the applause of the subway car.    I can’t believe I teared up watching this video.  Apparently New York has been plagued by nutjob evangelical preachers on their subway trains.  They corner people, like little religious hostages, in subway cars, and yell at them about how they’re all going to hell.  Well, one gay New Yorker wasn’t going to take the anti-gay diatribe from the anti-gay bigot evangelical accosting his subway car.  He stood up and shouted the man down, and then something wonderful happened. Darnell Dockett Note to Darnell Dockett:  Speculating if someone is gay is NOT an insult. The way you reacted is.  Via The Advocate: Fox Sports commentator Chris Rix has apologized for implying his college football teammate Darnell Dockett was gay after his statements became the subject of several enraged tweets by Dockett.   On Jay Mohr’s radio show Wednesday, Rix said that when he and Dockett (now a pro with the Arizona Cardinals) were on the Florida State University football team, “there was always jokes about Darnell and what his preference was,”  Deadspin  reports. He went on to say, “There were a few stories of ‘Why is Darnell hanging out at this guy’s house or this guy’s dorm room?’”   In a series of Thursday tweets that have since been deleted from Twitter, Dockett called Rix a liar, threatened him, and said no one on the FSU team liked him, according to Deadspin, which published screen grabs. “I swear I my dead mother @coachrix when I see you that’s your ass!”

President Obama: Boy Scouts should end gay ban More words from the bully pulpit!  And, yes, the President's words really do affect public opinion!  Thank you, Mr. President! In an interview with CBS, anchor Scott Pelley asked the president if he believed scouting should be open to gays. "Yes," Obama said simply. Asked to elaborate, Obama – who last year said he supports the right of same-sex couples to marry – said gays and lesbians should be able to participate in "every institution" that others can. "My attitude is ... that gays and lesbians should have access and opportunity the same way everybody else does, in every institution and walk of life," he said.
