Joel Osteen Proves Dan Savage Is Right About Fundamentalist Biblical Hypocrisy

Joel Osteen and his FABULOUS hair!!
Fundamentalist Christians choose to ignore a lot of things the bible condemns like wearing 2 different fabric or shaving.  They choose to ignore things the bible condones like slavery.  Somehow they can't seem to ignore the gay condemnation in the bible.

Dan Savage told this to high school journalists.  Many of the fundamental christian journalists in the audience didn't want to hear the truth about their beliefs and walked out.

Via TowleRoad:

The Bible. We'll just talk about the Bible for a second. People often point out that they can't help it -- they can't help with the anti-gay bullying, because it says right there in Leviticus, it says right there in Timothy, it says right there in Romans, that being gay is wrong.

We can learn to ignore the bulls**t in the Bible about gay people. The same way, the same way we have learned to ignore the bulls**t in the Bible about shellfish, about slavery, about dinner, about farming, about menstruation, about virginity, about masturbation. We ignore bulls**t in the Bible about all sorts of things. The Bible is a radically pro-slavery document. Slave owners waved Bibles over their heads during the Civil War and justified it. The shortest book in the New Testament is a letter from Paul to a Christian slave owner about owning his Christian slave. And Paul doesn't say "Christians don't own people." Paul talks about how Christians own people.

We ignore what the Bible says about slavery, because the Bible got slavery wrong. Tim -- uh, Sam Harris, in A Letter To A Christian Nation, points out that the Bible got the easiest moral question that humanity has ever faced wrong. Slavery. What're the odds that the Bible got something as complicated as human sexuality wrong? One hundred percent.

The Bible says that if your daughter's not a virgin on her wedding night -- if a woman isn't a virgin on her wedding night, she shall be dragged to her father's doorstep and stoned to death. Callista Gingrich lives. And there is no effort to amend state constitutions to make it legal to stone women to death on their wedding night if they're not virgins. At least not yet. We don't know where the GOP is going these days.

People are dying because people can't clear this one last hurdle. They can't get past this one last thing in the Bible about homosexuality.

Now we get to Joel Osteen spouting exactly the same crap that Dan correctly claims.

Via ThinkProgress:

church leader Joel Osteen reiterated his belief that “the scripture says that being gay is a sin,” telling Fox News’ Chris Wallace Sunday morning, “my faith is based on what I believe the scripture says and that’s the way I read the scripture.” Asked if gay people are entitled to equal rights, Osteen insisted “I don’t think we should discriminate against anybody” before adding, “I am not for gay marriage.”

His faith is "based on what the scripture says" and yet, there he is... clean shaven, not advocating for slavery.

Come on, people.  Christian literalists don't believe literally everything in the bible.  They just believe what's convenient.

Morning DJ Tells Dad Of Lesbian He Should Have Her "Raped Straight"

Dominic "see how manly I am" Dieter
I can see it now.  A new reality series called "Raped Straight".  It will be a combination of "Intervention" and "Scared Straight".
Not only is he claiming that gays and lesbians can change who they are if only they find the right opposite sex partner, he's advocating for rape to get the job done.  Stay classy, Cleveland!!
Dominic Dieter, a radio personality at Cleveland's WMMS, is in hot water for suggesting to a father he should arrange to have his daughter raped to turn her straight.
The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) is calling on Clear Channel, parent company of WMMS, to suspend Dieter for the comment.
Dieter doled out the advice during Friday morning's Rover's Morning Glory show.Responding to a father who happened upon his teenage daughter kissing another girl, Dieter said, “You should get one of your friends to screw your daughter straight.”

Coach Dave Daubenmire, Father Of A Pedophile Son, May Be Gay...

Very Anti Gay Coach Dave Daubenmire
...Or he may not be.  I don't have any direct facts that prove he is gay.  But let's examine the following evidence.  First, we have the fact that coach Dave Daubenmire is very vocally ANTI GAY!!

Via JoeMyGod:

"Permit me to clarify the definition. Sodomy is one MAN inserting his genitals into the mouth or anus of ANOTHER MAN. Say it again. Say it out loud so your ears hear it. Picture it in your mind. Picture Barney Frank and Elton John in action. Barney Frank putting his genitals into Elton John’s. That is what they want to tell us is normal…no wait…tell our children is normal. Into that 'union' they are asking permission to place children. Would you let them put YOUR grandchild into a sodomy-based family? Why would you let them do it to someone else’s child? Have normal people lost their minds?" - Crackpot "Coach" Dave Daubenmire, in a column republished by Porno Pete.

Wow, for someone who hates sodomites (well, gay ones at least) he sure is encouraging people to "picture" it.  If fact, this could be seen as promoting gay sodomy fantasies.  That's kind of weird for someone who is so anti gay.

Then we have this study:

People who have negative feelings toward homosexuality often have secret attractions to the same sex — and are more likely to have grown up in households that forbid homosexual feelings, according to a recent study.

Coach Dave's convicted, straight pedophile son
Zachary Daubenmire
And this study:

...Heterosexual men with the most anti-gay attitudes, when asked, reported not being sexually aroused by gay male sex videos. But, their penises reported otherwise.

Homophobic men were the most sexually aroused by gay male sex acts.

So, when you put 2 and 2 together or, in this case, 1 anti gay bigot and 2 "homophobes may likely be closet cases" studies, it is fair to ask that question.

Add to the very strange mix the fact that coach Dave, who seems obsessed with visualizing gay sodomy, raised a straight pedophile son.

I can't say whether or not this has any bearing on coach Dave's child rearing abilities or if this is an indictment against all heterosexual parents, considering coach Dave claims to be straight.

What this may be is a father, whose view of his own sexuality is completely warped and twisted, raised a son whose own sexuality is completely warped and twisted.  Picture it in your mind.  Picture an apple not falling too far from the tree.

Do You Think This Pro Gay Marriage Video Is Effective For Its Intended Audience?

John Avarosis at AmericaBlog thinks this U.K. video may miss the mark.  He thinks it may turn off the intended audience that it is trying to convince by showing a very tender kiss between the 2 men.  I disagree.  I think the video does a great job of "humanizing" both men before the kiss.  It takes its time to portray the emotional expressions of both men during this homecoming. I think anyone can identify with either one of the two.  The kiss that follows only reinforces the emotion that we have already seen and identified with.  I think the ad works, not just for gays but for anyone that is "ready" to be convinced.

Also, the kiss takes place after a marriage proposal.  Without the kiss, the scene would seem fake.  It would seem too self-aware, trying too hard to be "acceptable".  Including the kiss is a very clever way of showing how natural the situation is.  Love is Love and a marriage proposal, if accepted, is always followed by a kiss.

What do you think?  Will this ad work for straight people "on the fence" about gay marriage?  Leave and comment to discuss.

California Bill Would Ban "Ex-Gay" Therapy For Minors

Another excuse to post a shirtless hot guy...
you're welcome...again!
Not only would it ban the therapy for minors, it would also require a consent form to be signed by adults subject to this harmful treatment.  "Reparative therapy" is complete bunk!  It is harmful to the people unfortunate enough to be subjected to it.  It also DOES NOT WORK.  Even "reparative therapists" have admitted this.
Opponents of this bill will scream about "religious freedom" and allowing patients to decide what is best for themselves...uh, no.  Religious freedom does not give one license to cause emotional harm to another individual.  Patients who request this therapy are doing so because the homophobes around them have convinced them that being gay is bad.  "Reparative therapy" is the symptom of a disease called homophobia.  This bill goes a long way to curing this disease.
Testify, brother!!
A California Senate committee today advanced SB 1172, a bill that would help protect citizens from harmful, ineffective ex-gay therapy. The law does not outright ban all ex-gay therapy, but it does prohibit anyone under the age of 18 from undergoing sexual orientation change efforts. It also requires that any prospective patient sign an informed consent form that includes the following disclaimer:
Having a lesbian, gay, or bisexual sexual orientation is not a mental disorder. There is no scientific evidence that any types of therapies are effective in changing a person’s sexual orientation. Sexual orientation change efforts can be harmful. The risks include, but are not limited to, depression, anxiety, and self-destructive behavior.
Medical and mental health associations that oppose the use of sexual orientation change efforts include the American Medical Association, the American Psychological Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the National Association of Social Workers, the American Counseling Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.

Hunky Straight Actor Chris Evans Voices Support For Gay Marriage

I could have used a picture with a shirt...
You're Welcome!!
There is nothing hotter than a sexy straight guy advocating for gay rights.  Just look at Chris Evans.  No, really, look at that chest!

O.K. back to the issue at hand.

PLAYBOY: Your brother is gay. Do you support gay marriage?

EVANS: Are you kidding me? It’s insane that civil rights are being denied people in this day and age. It’s embarrassing, and it’s heartbreaking. It goes without saying that I’m completely in support of gay marriage. In 10 years we’ll be ashamed that this was an issue.

Anglican Chaplain Asks And Answers "Was Jesus gay? Probably"

What is that sound?  Is it the sound of right wing Christian heads exploding?  Could be.

Imagine the irony of these homophobic fundamentalists worshiping what could be the gay messiah.

Found at AmericaBlog:

Was that divisive issue a subject for Good Friday? For the first time in my ministry I felt it had to be. Those last words of Jesus would not let me escape. "When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing near, he said to his mother, 'Woman behold your son!' Then he said to the disciple. 'Behold your mother!' And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home."

That disciple was John whom Jesus, the gospels affirm, loved in a special way. All the other disciples had fled in fear. Three women but only one man had the courage to go with Jesus to his execution. That man clearly had a unique place in the affection of Jesus. In all classic depictions of the Last Supper, a favourite subject of Christian art, John is next to Jesus, very often his head resting on Jesus's breast. Dying, Jesus asks John to look after his mother and asks his mother to accept John as her son. John takes Mary home. John becomes unmistakably part of Jesus's family.

Jesus was a Hebrew rabbi. Unusually, he was unmarried. The idea that he had a romantic relationship with Mary Magdalene is the stuff of fiction, based on no biblical evidence. The evidence, on the other hand, that he may have been what we today call gay is very strong.

Pro Gay Marriage Priest In Washington State Receives Standing Ovation From Parishioners

It's great to see such a brave stance within such a hateful organization!  Bravo to all the parishes that are standing up against bigotry!

Via Think Progress:

At least six Catholic parishes in Washington state have ignored the Seattle Archbishop’s call to gather signatures for a referendum repealing the state’s recently-enacted marriage equality law, calling the effort “hurtful and seriously divisive in our community.” “Seattle’s Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church gave the Rev. Tim Clark a standing ovation Sunday” when he announced that the parish would not be participating in the anti-equality effort:
“I am happy to report that Our Lady of the Lake parish-oners have been overwhelmingly and, thus far, unanimously supportive of the decision I made NOT to gather signatures in support of this Referendum,” Clark wrote in response to an e-mail.
The standing ovation experienced during one of the Masses says less about me and much more about the health of this parish. I only wished the archbishop could have experienced the sustained applause — the ‘sensus fidelium’ — of the people. He needs to listen to this ‘voice.’ That is my prayer.”

Titanic And The Story Of Its Gay Passengers

It obviously makes sense that there were gays and lesbians on the fateful maiden voyage of the Titanic.  Here is a video with Hugh Brewster, author of 'RMS Titanic: Gilded Lives on a Fatal Voyage' being interviewed about the many gays and lesbians on the ship.

Author Of "Gays Can Change" Study Retracts His Own Flawed Conclusions

Dr. Robert Spitzer
Something tells me the homophobes who have used this study to promote their hateful agenda won't care about this retraction.  This study is a major weapon that they used to claim gays can change their sexual identity.  Facts never do get in the way of their beliefs...I don't think they can change either.
In a move that serves as a significant blow to “ex-gay” programs and anti-gay organizations, Dr. Robert Spitzer repudiated his much-criticized 2001 study that claimed some “highly motivated” homosexuals could go from gay to straight. Hisretraction occurred in anAmerican Prospect magazine article that hit newsstands today. Spitzer’s rejection of his own research, which was originally published in the prestigious Archives of Sexual Behavior, is a devastating blow to “ex-gay” organizations because it decisively eliminates their most potent claim that homosexuality can be reversed through therapy and prayer.
Dr. Spitzer’s repudiation of his 2001 study is an earthquake that severely undermines the validity of ‘ex-gay’ programs. Spitzer just kicked out the final leg from the stool on which the proponents of ‘ex-gay’ therapy based their already shaky claims of success.
Spitzer’s 2001 study was a surprise and created a media firestorm because he had previously led the charge in 1972-73 to remove homosexuality from the list of mental disorders in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) of the American Psychiatric Association. At the time, this was a shocking story that captured the nation’s attention. Dr. Spitzer was the last person in America one would have expected to produce a study bolstering the claims of ‘ex-gay’ activists.
According to today’s American Prospect article:
“In retrospect, I have to admit I think the critiques [of my study] are largely correct,” Dr. Spitzer told the American Prospect in an article by Gabriel Arana titled, My So Called Ex-Gay Life. “The findings can be considered evidence for what those who have undergone ex-gay therapy say about it, but nothing more.” (my emphasis)
In other words, the study simply reports what the patients CLAIM...not what they truly feel.  These poor self-loathing closet cases WANTED to believe that they no longer had same sex attraction.

And Yet Another Study Shows Homophobes Are Closet Cases

We need to make this point over and over.   This should become common knowledge so our unfortunate closet case brethren will think twice before they publicly work to deny us our rights.  Anyone who is actively promoting anti gay policies should be assumed to be a self-loathing closet case.
People who have negative feelings toward homosexuality often have secret attractions to the same sex — and are more likely to have grown up in households that forbid homosexual feelings, according to a recent study.
A research team from the University of Rochester, the University of Essex, England, and the University of California in Santa Barbara found that “[h]omophobia is more pronounced in individuals with an unacknowledged attraction to the same sex and who grew up with authoritarian parents who forbade such desires.”
“Individuals who identify as straight but in psychological tests show a strong attraction to the same sex may be threatened by gays and lesbians because homosexuals remind them of similar tendencies within themselves,” the study’s lead author, Netta Weinstein, explained.
“In many cases these are people who are at war with themselves and they are turning this internal conflict outward,” co-author Richard Ryan added.

Anniversary Spa Getaway In Fort Worth

My partner and I are celebrating our 19th anniversary with a weekend getaway in Fort Worth, TX. Yes, I said 19th!  If Newt Gingrich keeps it up, he can have as many wives as my husband and I have had anniversaries!

We took Amtrak from Austin to Fort Worth.  I haven't been on Amtrak since my 6th grade school trip to Washington D.C.  It was a very enjoyable ride.  The seats are very roomy, the dining car was very fun.  I think we may be looking into more train vacations.

We had a nice massage and then a delicious dinner at Reata on Houston Street. We got to walk around downtown Fort Worth. It's much nicer than I had imagined. The surprise of the trip was the beautiful Fort Worth Water Gardens designed by Phillip Johnson. Here are some photos that I took. Enjoy!

Homophobic Mormon Cult Working To Overturn Maryland Marriage Equality

Cult founder Joseph Smith and family honoring the concept of
marriage between one man and one women...snark!!
Like they did in the California prop 8 campaign,  cult members of the mormon church are working to impose their homophobic beliefs on the state of Maryland.  I thought religious freedom was important.
Cult member Mitt Romney has been bitching about it lately.  Doesn't that include the freedom to not live according to hateful bigot's religious beliefs? Oh, "religious freedom" only matters if you agree with the mormon cult.
Members of the Mormon Church in Maryland are working to overturn the state’s recently passed marriage equality law, according to an email obtained by the Washington Blade.
In the message dated March 29 sent to D.C. and Southern Maryland-area church members, the writer states that a coalition of inter-denominational Maryland churches has joined to place a referendum before voters in November on the marriage law before it goes into effect.
“We need to collect approximately 200,000 signatures by the end of May,” the email states. “We are looking for people to gather signatures within the LDS community.”
LDS refers to the church’s formal name, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Those involved with the effort have told the Blade the message isn’t an official message from church leadership either at the local level or from its headquarters in Salt Lake City, but is rather part of a local ad hoc effort to challenge Maryland’s marriage law.
The email says the “important effort” is being led by Martha Schaerr, an LDS member who’s organizing signature collection within Montgomery County and within the church. Another named organizer in the email is Teressa Wallace.

Mass. Senator Scott Brown Compares Gay Rights To "Pet Projects"

Hot Homo-Pandering Scott Brown
In an obvious attempt to pander to the gay community, Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown writes an opinion piece in New England's GLBT Magazine Bay Windows.  In it, he promises the gay community...nothing.

Via Bay Windows:

I don’t come before you with a checklist of items promising that I will be an advocate for you on each and every one of them. My opponent has already started down that road, promising to support everyone’s pet project. That’s not the way I have ever operated.

So, he not only commits to nothing in terms of issues that have a direct affect on the lives of the GLBT community, he likens his opponent Elizabeth Warren's commitment to GLBT rights to support of "pet projects".  He dismisses our civil rights to be no more important than, say, a tax break for a relocating company.

Even worse, he says these "pet projects" take a back seat to creating jobs.

Mass. Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren
But I will go to work for you on the most important issue facing us—getting this bad economy working again and creating jobs.

Everywhere I go, people tell me they are concerned about their economic future. They are worried about being able to provide for their families. Incomes are down, gas prices are up, too many people are unemployed and many folks are stuck in part-time jobs when they want full-time work.

In some cases, people are working two jobs that pay less than they used to make at one.

I have made job creation my top legislative priority, and I have a proven record of working on a bipartisan basis to move our country forward.

He doesn't consider the irony that his "priority" on creating jobs means nothing to the gay community when, in 29 States, you can be fired from your job simply because you're gay.

His opponent Elizabeth Warren is a fierce advocate for GLBT rights.  Her priorities are our priorities.

Another Study Shows Homosexuality Is Completely Natural...This Time...Dolphins

Dolphins...or Gay Sharks!!
One of the main arguments made against homosexuality has been that homosexuality is not natural.  Too bad, for this argument, nature is having none of it.

Male bottlenose dolphins also were found to engage in extensive bisexuality, combined with periods of exclusive homosexuality. Male pairs, or even trios, cooperate to sequester and herd individual females during the mating season. Most males are also members of second order alliances consisting of 4 to 14 males. Such relationships appear to be long lasting, with one known 7-member group still intact after 17 years.

New Photo Surfaced Showing Couple Arrested On Gay Cruise Having Sex On Balcony

Now, it's getting interesting!  Queerty has allegedly obtained a photo of the gay couple arrested in Dominica for having gay sex on their cabin's balcony, in full view of everyone on the dock.  I had previously stated that we knew this was not the case...Apparently, I was wrong.

Plus, there is this eyewitness account:

My boyfriend and I, and a busload of other guys, did see what was happening on the balcony of the Celebrity Summit as we waited for our excursion to depart.
At first, I wasn’t paying attention, until I noticed a few Dominican females near the security gate of the pier where the ship docked, waving their arms and hands towards the ship, and talking loudly about something on the ship. The others on board the bus also looked, and we noticed one, then two guys on the balcony walking around naked. My first thought was, ‘If we can see them, can they see us?’
The ruckus at the dock became more excited when it appeared, at first to me, that they were engaging in oral sex. The two guys in front of me then said, ‘No, they are fucking!’

Via queerty:

Different accounts have been reported of what Celebrity Summit passengers John Hart and Dennis Mayer were doing on their balcony when they were arrested by police on the island of Dominica. It’s also been debated how visible the men were to witnesses on the docks.
An anonymous Queerty reader has sent us this image, allegedly depicting Mayer and Hart in flagrante. It looks pretty clear that, yup, they were humping like rabbits in clear view of bystanders.
Is what they did a capital offense? Did they deserve to be taunted and humiliated?  Of course not.
