Alleged Closet Case GOP Congressman David Dreier Will Retire

There have been persistent rumors about Congressman Dreier's sexuality for decades.  Perhaps now he can pull a "Ken Mehlman" and try to offer his help without ever acknowledging all the damage he has done by almost always voting against any pro-gay legislation and almost always voting for anti-gay legislation.

Via Joe My God:

Rep. David "Closet Case" Dreier (R-CA) will not seek reelection to the U.S. House this fall.
Veteran Rep. David Dreier, one of California's most influential Republicans in Congress, announced Wednesday that he won't be running for reelection, perhaps the biggest casualty of the state's first-ever citizens-drawn political map, which cast him into a politically inhospitable district. Dreier is the sixth California House member to announce his retirement when his term expires, further shaking up a delegation that has built up clout on Capitol Hill because of its stability over the years. Dreier, chairman of the House Rules Committee, made the announcement on the House floor, citing Congress' "abysmally low approval rating." "The American people are asking for change in Congress," he said.
Dreier was outed by LA Weekly in 2004 when the newspaper revealed that he had a "romantic relationship" with his own chief of staff. Dreier voted for DOMA, against gay adoption, and against the Hate Crimes Act. He has a 20% rating from the HRC, mostly due to his last minute vote for the repeal of DADT. Dreier has never responded publicly to questions about his sexual orientation. He is a pig. Bye bye piggie.

Rick Santorum: Separation Of Church And State Makes Me Want To Throw Up

Rick Santorum is the De Facto leader of the American Taliban.  He is a Catholic Extremist and probably believes that the Government should be led by the Pope, for all intents and purposes.
This might explain a lot about Rick Santorum and his beliefs regarding the Constitution. As far as Rick Santorum is concerned, this nation should be a Catholic theocracy. This, of course, means that priests and bishops would be sacrosanct and above reproach even if they molest children. It is also apparent that Santorum is, by and large, ignorant of history.

He said on ABC today that:
“I don’t believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute. The idea that the church can have no influence or no involvement in the operation of the state is absolutely antithetical to the objectives and vision of our country. This is the First Amendment. The First Amendment says the free exercise of religion. That means bringing everybody, people of faith and no faith, into the public square. Kennedy for the first time articulated the vision saying, no, ‘faith is not allowed in the public square. I will keep it separate.’ Go on and read the speech ‘I will have nothing to do with faith. I won’t consult with people of faith.’ It was an absolutist doctrine that was foreign at the time of 1960.”
Kennedy was not the first to articulate the whole issue of the separation of church and state. James Madison, largely seen as the architect of the Bill of Rights, stated “Strongly guarded as is the separation between Religion & Govt in the Constitution of the United States.” The phrase itself dates to Thomas Jefferson who wrote:
Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should “make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”, thus building a wall of separation between Church & State.
In fact, the view was not only that there should be a wall between the two, but that the State should not interfere unreasonably with religious practice nor should religion unduly interfere with the governance of others. Simply put, Congress can pass laws that are based in a secular society, but people are not forced to adhere to many of those secular laws if they do not wish to. Women are not forced to undergo abortions, people are not forced to marry others of the same-sex, or use birth control. Outside of those laws which make things blatantly illegal, no one is incarcerated for living according to their religious beliefs. Certainly, a person cannot murder another and claim religious exemption, but they can refuse to marry someone who is lesbian or gay.
Of course, as far as Rick Santorum is concerned, theocracy is the only way to go, and fuck the Constitution.

3 Lesbians Accused Of Hate Crime Against Gay Man...Huh?

Lydia Sanford
A very sad and interesting situation in Boston.  Three woman, who claim to be lesbians have been arraigned for a hate crime...against a gay man.  John Avarosis at AmericaBlog makes a good point. Roy Cohn was gay, and the man was a walking hate crime.”
A gay Boston man was allegedly the victim of a hate crime last week when he was attacked by a group of teenage girls at a subway station, Boston’s news station WHDH reported.
Felicia Stroud
Local authorities say that the man had cuts on his face and a bloody nose and that he told police a group of teenage girls physically and verbally assaulted him at the Forest Hills subway station. He also told police that he believes he was attacked because he is gay...
Erika Stroud
...But the case took a strange turn on Saturday, Feb. 25, when Boston police arraigned three black girls who claim that they are lesbians. The Boston Herald reported that a prominent civil rights lawyer claimed that "no sane jury would convinct them under those circumstances." He saved most of his fire for hate-crime laws which, he said, tries to break people down into categories and "is doomed for failure."

I Dare You Not To Cry At This Wedding Video!

This is such a wonderful video!  The director is raising funds for a film about anti-gay bullying. I hope anyone who can donates to fund this film!
Director/Producer Elliot London’s short film, The Wedding Dance has the power to make grown men cry. Or just you. Or Ellen and her army of millions of equality-loving moms – hint hint!
Real talk, as a gay man engaged to a total dreamboat I sometimes daydream about our wedding. Between the two of us, we have a pretty stellar constellation of loved ones – my beautiful foster mother and sister and Nick’s incredible parents and siblings. I sometimes wonder how these important people will factor into our special day.
Is there an aisle? Does Nick’s dad walk someone down it? Do we share our first dance with our best ladies? Can my sister be my best man? It’s a lovely kind of a anxiety, but sometimes an anxiety nonetheless. So I absolutely appreciate the Who Gives a $%*# nature of Jed asking his gay fathers to dance with him and his wife in this touching video.

This is the world we live in. Our families aren’t just limited to the cookie-cutter images we see in political commercials. Our real families, Like Jed and Fabi’s include lesbian aunts, Catholic abuelas, same-sex parents, goth BFF’s and a plethora of other assorted figures that have at least one thing in common – they adore us.
If you like what you see here – and of course you have – London is currently raising funds to produce a feature film about anti-gay bullying in the age of social media on IndieGogo.
It’s incredibly heartening to see so many LGBT films being funded via crowdsourcing this year. We’d love to see London meet his goal for this film as well.

Tired of Mormons Posthumously Baptizing Dead Non-Mormons?...Baptize Dead Mormons into homosexuality

Not only is the Mormon Church pissing off gays, they are also pissing off dead people! Mormons have been posthumously baptizing dead holocaust victims, among others, into their faith. Imagine enjoying yourself in the afterlife only to find out some cult has decided that you are now a follower of their psychosis.  How pissed would you be?!
Newly baptized Mormon Anne Frank
Annelies Marie (Anne) Frank, a German-born Jew who perished in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, was allegedly baptized posthumously by Mormons on Saturday, the Huffington Post reported Tuesday.
According to the report, the baptism was conducted using a proxy, by a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Dominican Republic .
Whistleblower Helen Radkey, a former member of the church, told the Huffington Post that she discovered Frank's name on a database open only to Mormons, where the Jewish girl who died at age 15 was listed as "Completed" beside categories labeled "Baptism" and "Confirmation" with the date February 18, 2012. A screen shot of the alleged database sent by Radkey is linked to the Huffington Post report.
The Huffington Post described Radkey as "a Salt Lake City researcher who investigates such incidents, which violate a 2010 pact between the Mormon Church and Jewish leaders."
Jews are particularly offended by an attempt to alter the religion of Holocaust victims, who were murdered because of their religion, and the baptism of Holocaust survivors was supposed to have been barred by a 1995 agreement.
Mormons believe posthumous baptism by proxy allows deceased persons to receive the Gospel in the afterlife. The church believes departed souls can then accept or reject the baptismal rites and contends the offerings are not intended to offend anyone.
Other religions, including the Catholic church, have also publicly objected to the baptism of its members, and it's been widely reported that Mormon and GOP presidential nominee front-runner Mitt Romney's atheist father-in-law Edward Davies was posthumously baptized.
Pissed off and feeling helpless?  Worry no more!  You can now posthumously baptize a dead Mormon into homosexuality at this fabulous new website!  The great thing is, once they are baptized, there are no take backs!!  It is permanent gayness for all dead Mormons!!  I didn't know any dead Mormons, since I don't travel in the same social circles...so the website let me randomly choose a dead Mormon.  My Mormon was someone named Peter Anderson.  I clicked the "Convert" button and "Presto-Change-o"...Peter Anderson is now GAY for all eternity!  Isn't Cult thinking FUN?!!

College Football Player Assaults Lesbian In Bar Fight

Shane Williams, Chelsea Gallagher
Young Drunk kids do stupid things.  We'll follow this to see if formal charges will be filed against Williams.

Via The Advocate:

A Colorado Mesa University running back was arrested for allegedly assaulting a lesbian outside of a bar in Grand Junction, Colo. early Friday.

Local ABC 7 reports that police responded to an altercation outside the Red Room Bar and Lounge and arrested Shane Williams, 20, after witnesses said the college football player had engaged in a verbal confrontation with a woman that turned physical.

According to the victim, Chelsea Gallagher, the fight stemmed from comments made about her sexual orientation and the appearance of her female companion.

"Going outside to leave," Gallagher told KKCO-TV, “is when they started kind of making comments about us being gay and saying that [my friend] looked like a boy and stuff.”

Gallagher told KJCT-TV that she suffered a black eye, a fractured skull, and hearing loss as a result of the incident.

Williams is reportedly free on bond following an arrest on suspicion of second-degree assault, possession of a fake ID, and possession of alcohol as a minor.

No formal charges have been filed.

Ex-Boyfriend Of Arizona Sheriff Paul Babeu Speaks Out

Paul Babeu
The video below is mainly an interview with the reporter of the article who broke this story.

After admitting that he is in fact gay, Arizona GOP Sheriff Paul Babeu has denied any of the accusations of his for Mexican boyfriend "Jose".  Jose was interviewed on CNN and he stands by his allegations of intimidation by Babeu and his lawyer.

Via CNN.com:

The Mexican man who says Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu threatened him with deportation if he divulged the news of their romantic involvement tells CNN's Miguel Marquez he stands by the allegation.

The 34-year-old man, whose attorney asks that he be identified only as "Jose" because he "continues to live in fear," says his immigration status is current and he has a 10-year, US tourist visa that allows multiple-crossings of the border. "Jose" also says he was running a business in Arizona called Website Results LLC and claimed it's legal to run the business in the country, even on a tourist visa.

On Saturday, Babeu resigned as campaign co-chair for presidential hopeful Mitt Romney and revealed that he is gay, but he denies "Jose's" allegations.

Gay Homeless Youth Thrown Out Like Trash

This is a terrible situation!  There are several organizations that tackle this problem head on.  Do what you can to help these or other programs.  Share others in the comments section.
Via Think Progress:
here are approximately 1.6 million to 2.8 million homeless young people in the United States and a disproportionate number — 20 to 40 percent — are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender. LGBT youth often run away from home because of family conflict and then “face overt discrimination when seeking alternative housing, which is compounded by institutionalized discrimination in federally funded programs.”
Last night, a local CBS affiliate in Miami, Florida offered an in-depth look into the crisis of LGBT youth homelessness and the children who are put out “like trash” by parents who refuse to accept them:
Studies show that 320,000 to 400,000 gay and transgender youth face homelessness each year and that many lose their homes at the young age of 13 or 14, as they come out to their parents. Fortunately, the Department of Health and Human Services is already providing “training and technical assistance to States and Indian Tribes on a wide variety of LGBTQ-related issues” and the Obama administration has released recommendations for providing the best possible care in shelters for homeless LGBT youth.

GOP Arizona Sheriff Paul Babeu Allegedly Threatens Mexican Ex-Boyfriend With Deportation

Arizona Sheriff Paul Babeu
Paul Babeu is Mitt Romney's campaign co-chair in Arizona and is running as a republican for congress.
Rising Republican star and well-known border hawk Sheriff Paul Babeu, who’s now running for Congress in Arizona, was hit Friday night with bombshell accusations from a Mexican immigrant who said he dated the sheriff for years and was threatened with deportation if he ever told anyone about their romance.
The Phoenix New Times newspaper broke the story on its website in a piece written by veteran journalist Monica Alonzo. The accusations came complete with text messages said to be between the two men as well as compromising photos purportedly of Babeu that are reminiscent of recent sex scandals that ended the careers of Congressmen Anthony Weiner and Chris Lee.
In one photo, Babeu is seen posing in front of a mirror in nothing but his underwear. In another, he has his hand inside the man’s partially unbuttoned shirt...
...In an interview late Friday with the Arizona Republic, Babeu declined to discuss whether he had a romantic relationship with Jose. But he acknowledged knowing him and denied the accusations that he ever threatened him.
“That never happened,” Babeu said, according to the newspaper. The rest, he said, he was going to keep to himself. “My personal life is exactly that.”
Babeu (right) picture with "Jose", his alleged Mexican
ex-boyfriend
Ah, yes. The mantra of a closet case.  A quote from The Phoenix Times article makes a very good point:
Informed of the situation, Nancy-Jo Merritt, a longtime Phoenix immigration attorney, says such a threat would be indicative of an "atmosphere that's been created politically in this state, so that if you get angry at someone who is Hispanic, you immediately jump down to the level of threatening to deport him.
"If what [Babeu's attorney] says is correct [about Jose's being illegal], either the sheriff had a long relationship with someone he knew was undocumented, while all the time being Mr. Bluster about the border and using it for political gain," or he threatened to deport someone he just broke up with, Merritt says.
"That's just the worst kind of hypocrisy."

Anti Gay Radio Host Accused Of Hit And Run Outside Gay Bar He Was Leaving

Anti gay radio host and gay bar patron Michael Berry
What is an Anti Gay talk radio host and former Houston councilman Michael Berry doing in a gay bar?  Did he drink before he backed into a car while leaving the bar?  Why hasn't the Houston D.A. filed charges?  There is an eyewitness/victim who got the license plate.  The SUV belongs to Berry. The bar has reportedly turned over video showing Berry in the bar just before the hit and run.

Once again, this study may very well explain this situation.

Via JoeMyGod:

Conservative talk radio host Michael Berry has been accused of leaving the scene of a fender bender after departing a drag show he attended at a popular Houston gay bar. Berry is known for ranting against same-sex marriage and related LGBT issues.

Local 2 Investigates e-mailed Berry for his response to the hit-and-run allegations and the videotape showing him inside the club during that drag show, and Berry replied, "I don't respond to such things." Houston police said the hit-and-run was still under investigation, adding that Berry was not listed as being charged with a crime at this point. If additional witnesses are found, or if prosecutors change their minds about the video and the witness account, Berry could be charged with a misdemeanor crime of Failure to Stop and Give Information (FSGI).

The victim told Local 2 Investigates he believes the conservative activist is trying to avoid the issue entirely because of his public stances involving gay people. "If you're going to stand up and say anti-gay things and be conservative and be Mr. Good Guy, and then when something happens that points you out and puts you in a place with the exact business that you aim to shut down, it kind of makes it seem like I need this to go away and I need it to go away quickly," said Bennett.
How about this story, Houston? Will this be a big deal?(Tipped by JMG reader Sai)

Watch the video on Click2Houston.com

Update:  More witnesses have come forwarded and newly released surveilence video place Bennet at the bar.  Video update here!

Girl Scouts Alternative For Homophobic Christians

Saluting Homophobia
God forbid these precious Christian snowflakes become involved in a tolerant and inclusive organization.

Via JoeMyGod:

Because of the recent furor over the Girl Scouts' inclusive membership policy, an anti-gay alternative called the American Heritage Girls is seeing an explosion in membership.
The group started with 100 girls in Ohio, and in recent weeks has surpassed 18,000 members in 45 states and six countries. Nine groups with a total of 357 girls meet in the St. Louis area; there were five local groups at this time last year. They are based at private schools and churches in Jefferson, St. Charles and St. Louis counties. Founder Patti Garibay, who had been a longtime Girl Scout leader for her daughters, wanted a choice. "We are faith-based, and they are secular, and that's a change," she said. "We're not for everybody, but we're obviously for a lot of people." Garibay estimates that 90 percent of Heritage members have left the Girl Scouts. Shanna Stewart, who home-schools her two daughters in Wentzville, found American Heritage Girls after becoming concerned when she learned the Girl Scouts had invited a lesbian to speak at the national level. "They were encouraging girls to embrace whoever they were; it didn't matter what choices they made, as long as they were true to themselves. That was a concern."
Like the Boy Scouts, the American Heritage Girls ban atheists and gays from becoming members or leaders.

Being true to yourself...Is a bad thing...according to this mom....WTF?!!  And these idiots think gay people shouldn't raise children!!

Right Wing Extremists Long For The Days When Anti-Gay Violence Was Normal

Don't you long for the days when kicking a faggot's ass was normal?  Peter LeBarbera and Patrick Wooden sure do! Of course, they claim that they aren't advocating violence.  But, it sure was better when you could!

Via Right Wing Watch:
On last week’s edition of Americans For Truth About Homosexuality Radio Hour, a self-described “former homosexual” called for the arrest of author Dan Savage for his campaign to end suicide among LGBT youth, and today host Peter LaBarbera and guest Patrick Wooden reminisced about when violence against gay and transgender people was considered “normal.”
Wooden, a North Carolina pastor and anti-gay activist with who has claimed that older gay men have to wear diapers after a lifetime of shoving a variety of objects and animals up their anuses, started the program by criticizing NAACP president Ben Jealous for addressing the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force’s Creating Change conference. In his speech, Jealous described how his childhood best friend whom he considered a brother was bullied not only because he is black but also because of his “preference for wigs, dresses and make-up.” Pastor Wooden said that the family should have “whooped” him and “taught the child how to dress,” saying that his “heart breaks” for the NAACP’s stance on LGBT rights.
Later in the interview, Wooden and LaBarbera both claimed that it was “normal” for men to violently react to a gay man they perceived to be flirting with them and LaBarbera even said he fears that it would be considered a “hate crime” for a man to punch a transgender woman using the woman’s restroom.

Wooden: My heart breaks and I literally mourn over what has happened to the NAACP. Ben Jealous says he has a brother who is transgendered in his family, the little boy grew up dressing like Diana Ross or somebody when he was a child, well I say his parents should’ve took the child and whooped the child’s behind and taught the child how to dress.
Wooden: If you want to get knocked out just go into a male bathroom in the African American community or any community I would think and you’re standing there in a dress and many times the people are trying to hit on people, trying to make sexual responses, one man there, you know, you don’t want to be in there feeling like another man is trying to look at your penis. We’ve always had a hostile response, or a disrespect if you will, for that kind of behavior.
LaBarbera: It used to be common of course, I’ve heard many stories. I remember a story from a military guy, saying a guy came and he was a sailor and they had some temporary little day off at port and some guy hit on him and he decked him.
Wooden: That’s normal.
LaBarbera: When you make a sexual advance against a man on man, that is a normal response, and yet I fear in the rise of political correctness what’s going to happen is, somebody is going to find out that there was a man in his wife’s—his wife was in the restroom when a transgendered man, a biological male, was in the female restroom and he’s gonna punch him, but then the man who punches him is gonna be charged with a hate crime, that’s what I’m afraid of.
Wooden: We’re not promoting, advocating violence here.
LaBarbera: Of course not!
